Budget Redo: Punch Drunk Love!

tuesday

I’m in love with this living room. It’s bold use of color, pattern and texture makes me want to move in and make it my own. If you love it as much as I do, check out these finds to update your own space.

livingroomlove

1. Pillows. $98 – $178. Jonathan Adler has a great selection of pillows that would be perfect for this style (I suspect that’s what is on this actual sofa.)

2. Swan Chair. $649. The original of this chair is by Arne Jacobsen and retails for over $3,000. This high quality reproduction would be a great substitute!

3. Karlstad Sofa from Ikea. $499.  Love the color and the clean lines!

4. Glass Coffee Table. $294. I think one long table would suffice for the 2 square used in the original…and for less money. I also found quite a few of these on eBay and craigslist – depending on your location, be sure to check out those spots.

5. Graphic Screen. Build your own custom screen with these step by step instructions from HGTV. Customize it with your own design – paint, wallpaper, whatever you like!

6. Zebra Rug from West Elm. $129 – $749 depending on the size you need. The iconic zebra pattern is a great focal point for any room. While bold in scale, the neutral colors make it easy to decorate around.

7. Sisal Rug from Overstock.com. $169. Love the layered rug effect!

Found Friday: Carrie’s Birdcages

birdcageinspiration

Carrie wrote in looking for some colorful, vintage birdcages to brighten up her living room. What a clever idea to transform her space. This was a fun and inspirational find. You will have improvise and paint most of these options yourself, but a couple of quick coats of a brilliantly colored matte spray paint (I suggested some colors I thought would be fun punches), and voilà – you’re done.

2. Birdcage Card Holder. Most bird cages I found were used for wedding favors & cards…who knew this was such a popular theme? $39.99.

3. Set of 2 Antique Metal Bird Cages. Another set specifically for weddings, these felt slightly more modern in metal with the leaf decor. $19.99.

4. Set of 2 White Bird Cages. A bit more whimsical than some other options. $24.

5. Green Birdcage Tea Light Holder. If you’re not up for the DIY of painting your new cage – The Conran Shop has done it for you. $57.

6. Orange Birdcage. Another Conran Shop exclusive…in vibrant orange. $90.

3 simple things: Mr. Postman

handwritten

I wish the handwritten letter would make a come-back.  It would make the daily check of the  mail oh-so-interesting!  Instead, the bills, endless magazine renewals, credit card offers, where’s the joy in that?  I love paper, I love stamps and I love to write – so I’m going to start a handwritten revolution.  Want to join me?

Stick a Cork In It!

Cork is such a cool natural material.  The soft feel and texture is pleasing to the touch.  And now that so many designers are using it in their work – it can also be beautiful in your home!  Some of my favorite uses of it right now:

Cork Tray. Would be great for serving foods at a casual party!

Bowls and Boards.  The bowl would be the perfect fruit bowl for a kitchen counter…

Side Table.   I’ve got my eye on this as a nightstand.

Indigo Denim + Cork Pillow.  2 favorites – denim & cork, pure love.

Found Friday: Casey’s Clock

caseyclocks

Well, after searching to complete this week’s find…I can see why Casey wrote in for help! A seemingly easy search, right? A small, bedside alarm clock. There are many options available – but finding one that’s appealing enough to be the first thing you look at EVERY morning…whew.

Casey, I hope one of these lovelies will work for you!

2. Newgate Bubble Alarm Clock. A fun punch of color exudes a playful vibe. Also comes in neutrals. £2

3. Karlsson LED Cube Clock. I love the modern display on the rustic wood! $86.

4. Howard Miller Abigail Clock. I was first drawn to the color, and then the vintage feel. $35.

In another lifetime, I want to be a photographer.  I love their ability to capture a moment, a mood, an environment in a single frame.  I love the quiet intent with which they study their subjects and how they gracefully move throughout the scene…
