Etsy Finds: Inspired by Japan

via Made by Jo

Today’s Etsy Finds are inspired by one of my favorite spots on earth…Japan.  I adore the culture, the landscape, the people and the products.  These lovely products will transport us there in spirit today.  I want a big bowl of these paper cranes on my kitchen island!

Time to Play

Oh lovelies…how are you this fine Tuesday?  I am good (thanks for asking:) but have been pondering a question I’d love your input on:

How do you find the time to play, to create, to experiment?

Time that’s just for you -  to explore something you’ve wanted to do.

Sew, paint, learn, write…where do you fit this into life?

Love to hear your thoughts!

all photos from around my craft room of projects just waiting to be begun...sigh.

You know…something organized.

Yet inspiring enough to help me create fabulous looks!

I’m thinking something clean, but with a touch of glam.  Now if I can convince the boy to move to the guest bedroom closet.

sigh.

Today I’m Loving: Modern Genealogy

Happy Monday friends!  I hope you all had a wonderful weekend…mine led me to a very long car ride from New Jersey to Connecticut which left me lots of time to reflect.  And it got me thinking about family history and specifically genealogy.

Something that my grandmother was always into – and something which I thought was cool to think about but not to display in my home.  That is, until I stumbled upon My Tree and Me – a shop that does super cool, totally modernized family trees.  And now I’ve started to reconsider their place in the modern home.

I love the wonderful usage of color, strong graphic sensibilities and the way each is photographed in a way that I can totally borrow for my own home.  And another highlight?  1% of profits are donated to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation…a cause that’s very near and dear to my heart.

So now the only thing I’m thinking about is which one I’ll be ordering…soon.

You?

Shop Talk: Canvas

Oh wow!  It’s rare that I find a shop that I want to buy nearly everything they stock.  I found one exception recently with Canvas, a beautiful home store that sells ceramics, wood, textiles, furniture and on and on.

Their styling is amazing, their edited assortment to die for…and possibly my favorite part – everything they sell is created by artisans and craftsman that practice fair trade and green principles.  Perfect.  Products that not only look good, but you can feel good about buying – even in mass quantity as I plan to do!

Pop on over to check out their fantastic shop this weekend!

Happy Friday friends!

Bring the Outside in

via Guefel

I’ve spent the week visiting family in Montana.  What a change from Dallas, where you endure the summer inside avoiding the heat and humidity!  Here, I can’t wait to wake up and get outdoors.  A walk with the dog, downtown shopping, a quick hike…I love being in the great outdoors.  But, when I set foot in Dallas on Monday evening and remember the 100+ degrees that awaits – no doubt I will be looking for a way to bring some of this outdoor love inside.  Like with the above photo that I would love to hang opposite my bed so I can admire the sky first thing every morning!

Pin it Forward: What Home Means to Me

Today I’m so happy to be wrapping up the Pin it Forward blog event! I’ve had a wonderful time using Pinterest to create incredible concept boards -  and  they have partnered with sfgirlbybay for this event to bring together 300 bloggers to blog about What Home Means to Me.  I loved collecting images and thoughts for this post and feel so lucky to have a home that I love and love to share.

Summer Home Inspiration

via Sunset

I love the idea of a summer cottage.  The Modern Cottage Idea House, above, seems to fit the bill for my perfect someday summer home.  I love the color and material choices, the modern vibe and the fact that it’s green (both in color and in build) makes me really happy!  Modern Cabana, the company that builds the prefab beauty shown above and below – uses FSC certified woods for construction and recycled denim for insulation.

The landscaping is oh-so perfect as well…especially that vertical garden!  Oy!

via Living Etc.

This casual bedroom looks like the perfect cottage retreat…textured fabrics, mis-matched stripes and a calming neutral palette soothes the soul.

via Domino

This porch makes me want to make a pitcher of tea, grab a book and lounge the afternoon away…I love the bold color and the modern take on wicker furniture!

via Modern Beach House

A must-have bigger than big dining table…to host all of my family and friends that I would want to share this space with.  This amazing house above is available to rent in Oregon.  Yes, please!

via Room & Board

A large outdoor area to entertain and lounge by the pool…

Someday, maybe we’ll have a second home – but for now I’m perfectly content to lust over these lovely images…

xoxo, jill.
