Monday Play Time

If you’re needing a bit of a pick-me-up this Monday, check out this new-to-me color palette generator!  Found over the weekend through Creature Comforts, I’ve become officially obsessed as it feeds my love for all things color.

I can think of so many ways to use this great tool – to match a palette for a room, to build a mood board for an outfit, to plan a color theme for a party…oh the possibilities!!

I’ll be spending many a color-loving minutes on this lovely find…

Happy Monday!

rooms that make you go hmmmm…

I’m loving the bit of whimsy in each of these rooms.  The unexpected details that tell you they don’t take themselves too seriously…

I’m craving a bit of whimsy in my home…what will it be?

Interior Inspiration: Home for the Holidays

via Living Etc.

Tomorrow is the first official day of December.  And I am guessing that means that many of you have already begun to decorate your homes for the holidays.  Who am I kidding, many of you have probably already finished, right?  via House to Home

Me?  Nope.  Didn’t quite get to that yet.  Nevermind that I’m not even sure where my one measly box of decorations ended up in the move.  I’m sure it will turn up sooner or later…right around December 26th.

Here’s to hoping these little interiors will inspire me in BIG way to get my act in gear!  This year, I’m loving  a simple color palette.  Like this blue + green beauty below – or the soft neutrals above.  I think keeping it to one color really elevates the look, don’t you?

And I’m also loving this simple table setting – perfect for a quick Christmas cocktail party or maybe a brunch which I’m just itching to host!

Happy decorating!!

Object Round-Up: Table Setting

Felt Place Mats via Canvas

There’s nothing I love more about the holiday season than to gather with friends and family around a well-set table to enjoy a home cooked meal.

Nubby Placemats via Pottery Barn

I plan my setting and pieces out way in advance to make sure I have everything just right.  To me, the planning of the decor, menu and night is just as fun as the actual meal itself.  I know…design dork, right?

Anyway – I haven’t done enough of this entertaining this year – but now that the holidays are upon us, I’m getting my plans together for a couple of get-togethers. I can’t wait to mix and match my favorite serving pieces, and mix in some new loves as well.

Roost Lace Placemat via Design Public

Table linens are a great way to dress up your table in a flash…small touches that really pull the whole look together.  I’m not personally a fan of over-the-top holiday decor and tend to favor neutral colors in rich textures, that I can use again and again – no matter the occasion.  And this year there is no shortage of amazing pieces to update my look!

Owl Placemat via Velocity Art and Design

For a bit of fun, I love this placemat to color from Modern Twist…the perfect distraction for the kids or kid-like during dinner.

Cork Placemat via West Elm

I also love the idea of personalizing some of these neutral pieces with a stencil…this cork would be perfect with a stenciled metallic letter, shape or number.  See inspiration and instructions here if you’re feeling crafty!

Annah Ruby Tablecloth via Crate and Barrel

And although I usually stick to neutrals, this bold stripe is pretty fab.  I can see it with dark grey dishes and metallic accents…which for me means more shopping:)

Chilewich Placemats via Sur la Table

Chilewich has loads of amazing placemats and runners that I think would be fun to mix-and-match to create your own signature table style.  The weave and croco are two of my favorites!

Porter Silver Tablecloth via All Modern

A subtle silver stripe would play off metallic table accents perfectly…

Feather Placemat via Jayson Home and Garden

I’m totally loving the feathers this season…though, not quite sure how I feel about it being so close to my food.  Maybe I’ll stick to underneath the centerpiece for my touch of feather!

Twig Placemat via At West End

Wood Placemats via Plush Pod

And last but not least, a couple of wood styles that would add the perfect rustic touch to any modern table.

Do you have a signature table setting style or one your itching to test out this year?

in my files…comfy homes

Monday, already?  Where did the weekend go?  I’ve lost track of time and completely missed it…Today I’m in Hong Kong, the last stop on my adventure through Asia (a work trip no less:) and am a wee-bit homesick.

Homesick for my wonderful home in the making – which I promise to share as soon as I get some things hung on the wall and the place a bit more gussied up and debut ready.  Instead, I’m sharing a glimpse into my inspiration file that I’ve been collecting to guide me in my own home decor.  I use (and adore) pinterest to keep my online tears organized.

I’m striving to create a look that’s modern yet rustic at the same time.  Something gorgeous, but also lived in.  These rooms strike the perfect balance of personalized style + comfy abode.  By combining natural elements like antlers, hides and plants with simple streamlined  furniture and sticking to a mostly neutral color palette, these rooms please both the eye and the soul.

I want to stretch out in any of these for a good, long weekend with a stack of magazines and a big glass of pinot noir.  Mmmm.  Perfection!  Hope your week is off to a good start!

Interior Inspiration: Prop Stylist Kim Ficaro

Today I’m sharing a stylist’s site I’ve had bookmarked for quite a bit now.

I pop by every now and then to check what’s new or to fill my head with wonderful styling ideas to borrow for home.  Kim Ficaro is the creative force behind all of these great shots and her work has graced the pages of Domino, O, West Elm and Town and Country.

It’s so exciting to peruse a stylist or photographer’s site and instantly recognize so many of the rooms I’ve oogled over in shelter magazines.

I love how each of these rooms is an eclectic, personal expression that draws you in and makes you want to know the person who lives there…something we all strive for in our homes.

Ficaro’s gifted eye for detail and the unexpected has got me scavenging around my house to gather up all my inspirational bits to style with.  See more of her lovely work here.

Etsy Finds: Art Wall

I love the simple repetition of the black and white art, framed in mis-matched perfection of this hallway and think it would be perfect in just about any home.  Large or small wall, nook or entire room – it seems like the perfect collection to start today.

Spot of Color

Good morning lovelies!  I am fully rested after a good night’s sleep in my London hotel room.

My all-neutral London hotel room.  Which got me thinking that I also have an all-neutral bedroom back in Dallas.

And while it’s peaceful and wonderful for rest, I think it could use a bit of color to freshen it up!

Taking a cue from these inspirational bedrooms, I’m on the hunt for accents to work in a pop.  A bedside lamp, new sheets or a piece of art for the wall or the dresser would be the perfect way to introduce a small touch of color!

Object Round-Up: Bar Stools

The bar stool.  Such a well-used piece of furniture.  I myself am perched on one as I write most blog posts.  My friends end up sitting here through most evening’s over, sipping wine as we cook.  A clever bar stool can set the tone for the kitchen style.

Today I’m Loving: Fall Home Catalogs

The fall catalogs have started arriving – and I’m loving all of the natural, rustic accents adorning their pages.  I’m always on the hunt for a few pieces to add to my space to update and make it feel new for the season.  A few that have caught my eye so far.

I hadn’t checked out a RH catalog lately – and was smitten with their styling and home accents.  Lots of beautiful accents and furniture pieces that would add a perfect rustic touch to any space.

French Glass Cloches; Resin Antelope Antlers; Parisien Club Side TableFishing Weights; Copenhagen Chair; Pharmacy Lamp.

Next up, Viva Terra.  I’ve often bought gifts from this retailer and have always loved their style.  But this fall’s book turned me on to the amazing furniture pieces they have, as well as a few decorative objects that I’m coveting.

The mix of warm colors, rich textures and industrial accents is just perfect in these pages.  I adore the trend in printmaker’s inspired sideboards here and at RH.

Porthole Mirror Collection; Vintage London Bus RollSawhorse Table; French Bottle Lamp; Mushroom Stool; Meadowflower Rug.

And finally, my favorite home pieces from the Neiman Marcus‘ fall home book.  Luscious and luxurious…these pieces are perfect eye candy.

Chair; Set of 5 Trophy Heads; High Hat Brass Table; John Derian Plates; “Distant Views” PaintingJonathan Adler Nesting Cubes.

Lots of wonderful options to bring a bit of the fall trends into your home!  Unexpected color, rustic accents, vintage finds – all great ways to freshen your space in style.
