Hello friends!  I thought we could all use some lovelies to look today.  I do love a Monday after a long weekend, don’t you?  Everything’s just a bit brighter…

Chopsticks; Camera; Arrow Hanger; Lunch Box; Dolls.

It’s almost that time of year again…and it’s definitely that time of year to start decorating with all of this amazing holiday creative wonderfulness.

Pearl Yarn Wreath; Aqua Wreath; Mustard Wreath

I’m having trouble deciding between all of these goodies to help dress my house for the holidays.

Felt Bead Garland; Upcycled Wool Mitten Garland; Tiny Flag GarlandHappy Holidays Garland

A whimsical tree or wreath, some festive garland or a modern ornament?  Hmmm…

Paper Star; Bird Ornaments; Ornament Stocking; Ceramic Bird Ornament

Stop on over to Hello, Splendor today to see my favorite festive fashion picks.

Today I’m Loving: Muji

I’m headed to New York City this week for some research and shopping and CAN’T WAIT to see what’s new in-stores!  One of my most favorite stores to see in New York, London or Tokyo is Muji.  They make and carry the most simple, well-designed and affordable home goods, office wares and clothing that I can’t ever leave empty handed.

I’m hopelessly addicted to their ball point pens and craft paper envelopes. I have drawers full both at home and at the office.

I love to buy their notebooks in bulk and personalize them with Japanese tape or rubber stamps to give as gifts.

And some other faves: the uncloggable spray bottle; city in a bag wooden blocks make perfect the perfect souvenir gift for kids both big and small; softest socks!

Can’t wait to see what they have in store this week!

Object Round-Up: Table Setting

Felt Place Mats via Canvas

There’s nothing I love more about the holiday season than to gather with friends and family around a well-set table to enjoy a home cooked meal.

Nubby Placemats via Pottery Barn

I plan my setting and pieces out way in advance to make sure I have everything just right.  To me, the planning of the decor, menu and night is just as fun as the actual meal itself.  I know…design dork, right?

Dwell Placemat + Napkin via Design Public

Anyway – I haven’t done enough of this entertaining this year – but now that the holidays are upon us, I’m getting my plans together for a couple of get-togethers. I can’t wait to mix and match my favorite serving pieces, and mix in some new loves as well.

Roost Lace Placemat via Design Public

Table linens are a great way to dress up your table in a flash…small touches that really pull the whole look together.  I’m not personally a fan of over-the-top holiday decor and tend to favor neutral colors in rich textures, that I can use again and again – no matter the occasion.  And this year there is no shortage of amazing pieces to update my look!

Owl Placemat via Velocity Art and Design

For a bit of fun, I love this placemat to color from Modern Twist…the perfect distraction for the kids or kid-like during dinner.

Cork Placemat via West Elm

I also love the idea of personalizing some of these neutral pieces with a stencil…this cork would be perfect with a stenciled metallic letter, shape or number.  See inspiration and instructions here if you’re feeling crafty!

Annah Ruby Tablecloth via Crate and Barrel

And although I usually stick to neutrals, this bold stripe is pretty fab.  I can see it with dark grey dishes and metallic accents…which for me means more shopping:)

Chilewich Placemats via Sur la Table

Chilewich has loads of amazing placemats and runners that I think would be fun to mix-and-match to create your own signature table style.  The weave and croco are two of my favorites!

Porter Silver Tablecloth via All Modern

A subtle silver stripe would play off metallic table accents perfectly…

Feather Placemat via Jayson Home and Garden

I’m totally loving the feathers this season…though, not quite sure how I feel about it being so close to my food.  Maybe I’ll stick to underneath the centerpiece for my touch of feather!

Twig Placemat via At West End

Wood Placemats via Plush Pod

And last but not least, a couple of wood styles that would add the perfect rustic touch to any modern table.

Do you have a signature table setting style or one your itching to test out this year?

Can you tell fall is in the air here in Dallas, Texas?  It’s all I can talk about this week it seems.  Today, I’m headed to a cabin in southeastern Oklahoma for a bit of downtime.

three lil’ things i love about japan

Konnichiwa friends!  i’m totally loving being immersed in Japanese culture these week – and even secretly dreaming of a someday life in Tokyo:)  Three things i adore about being here, aside from the people, the food and the culture of course:

At a time when the U.S. magazine world is shrinking every day, there is nothing like a store FULL of fashion, interior and design magazines bursting with amazing inspiration!  I have a box sent over monthly, but it’s still not the same as being here and perusing for myself from the hundreds of choices…

Amazing visual merchandising and store displays.  Even a pair of socks is so artfully displayed here, you’ll be inspired.  I have taken over 200 pictures today alone for my style files…wowzers.

And really, for a paper addict like me there is no place on earth like Japan.  I want to buy an extra suitcase and stuff it full of amazing calendars, journals, postcards, note cards and books.   But, don’t worry I’m restraining and only picking my favorite, favorites.

Hope you’re all having a lovely day lovelies!

three lil’ things (in white)

I love the number three for three reasons:

1.  It’s an odd number.  And odd numbers are so much more interesting than evens.  Plus the word odd itself is just, well…odd.

2.  Three’s are memorable.  Three’s Company, Three Little Pigs, Three Blind Mice, Goldilocks and the three bears….you get the picture.

3.  And because I love the way both the word THREE and the number 3 looks when written.

So today – I’m sharing three lil’ things that I’m currently crushing on…all in the color white.  First up, the Holga Camera.  I love the vintage pics this camera takes – and I’m thinking the white would be so much easier to find in the bottom of my bag!

This adorable bird would look perfect perched in my bookcases…right next to my cream stack of books.  Yes, I organize my books by color.

This vintage-inspired cardigan to wear with pretty much everything this fall.

monday lovelies

I could use a shot of lovely on this Monday…how about you?  Something small to brighten my day.

How’s your day so far?
