Austin Influence

How was your weekend?  We had a lovely visit to a favorite city…Austin.  It was nice to escape and relax with my husband.  A few highlights:

Time away from home is always so inspiring.  I love taking the time to wander, explore and open your mind to all the inspiration around!  The relaxed vibe and rustic modern decor are things I’m keeping with me at home here in Dallas. A few spaces that capture the spirit of Austin:

Succulents, stone and placed art perfectly blend in this modern space.

Randomly scattered lanterns in mixed finishes and shapes highlights this otherwise clean wall.

Love that they’ve brought the plants in as art in this entry way…clean, yet cluttered with design books – I love the way this frames the house you’re about to experience.

Marfa Take Two…

I had the good fortune of spending another week in Marfa last week.  If you haven’t been, I suggest you get. there. fast.  But – I would wait until this Texas cold-spell passes us by so you can really enjoy the wide open spaces, small town feel and abundance of art.

If you do get there – here is my short list of must-dos:

*Eat falafal at Food Shark.

*Shop for unique finds at JM Drygoods.

*Tour Chinati.

*Eat date pudding at Cochineal and Cuatro Leches at Blue Javelina.  Argue over which is better.  Eat them again to decide.

*Visit Wool & Hoop and learn about crewel embroidery.

*Take pictures of the beautiful clouds and clear, blue sky.

*Try to get in a run to make room for more good eats.

*Order white pizza from Pizza Foundation.  Beware – the slices are HUGE and addictive.

*View the Marfa lights + amazing stars at the viewing center.

Get moving people!

Marfa, Texas

Well, I can cross one town off my list!  I finally made the loooong journey to Marfa and enjoyed experiencing life in a small town again.  Friendly folks, beautiful scenery – the clearest night sky I’ve seen in years.  It was lovely and relaxing.  A few of my faves:

Food Shark.  An amazing food experience too cool to miss.  A food truck, a converted bus as a dining car plus the most amazing food in town.  Marfalafel.  Pork Tenderloin Salad.  Peanut Butter cookies.  yummmmm.

Wool & Hoop.  A cuter than cute craft shop dedicated to crewelwork and other types of embroidery.  Run by the ever-so-gracious Katherine Shaughnessy who wrote this lovely book full of easy to follow how-to’s and inspiring, modern patterns.  I am slowly becoming obsessed.  The texture and rich colors are definitely swoon-worthy.

A building, land, sunset and agave.

That’s a quick tour of my Marfa faves.  Stop by and say howdy yourself sometime.

Check out the rest of my photographs here.
