i am really loving squash this winter. roasted in a tad of olive oil with just a hint of sea salt + black pepper to perfection. in a salad with some gorgonzola, on it’s own straight from the oven, or mixed with some brussel sprouts or other equally grown up vegetable. i think it means i’m officially an adult if i’m eating these things of my own free will. sigh…

i take solace in that i am not alone in this. a quick flickr scan has taken my love to a whole new level. these beautiful images and the enticing thought of a squash pizza, muffin, sandwich or tart. mmmm. i can barely contain my head until my next squash cook-a-thon.
i’m so tired of the cold weather! i know i’m supposed to enjoy all four seasons, but winter – i really despise you. cold i can handle. rain i can handle. but the two together for days on end, no thank you. i spent the weekend bundled up and trying to stay inside as much as possible! cooking warm food (gumbo, roasting squash, egg casserole) and looking for sunny, colorful images online to lift my spirits.
how was your weekend?
i finally broke in my sewing machine this weekend, really broke it in. i’m embarrassed to admit that it has mostly set as a prop in my office for the good part of last year. and i’m even more embarrassed to tell you that it was my husband who saw me struggling with needle and thread and suggested i get it out. my craft day has me hooked and on the hunt for my next project. a few that have made my someday sewing list:
*easy floor cushions to rest my head during movie nights.
*this simple apron would make the perfect summer cookout accessory.

*i love this silhouette art project…i’m thinking modern chair.
*fingers crossed, i’m going to attempt my first piece of clothing with this lovely skirt.

Happy New Year friends!
I love making lists. That much you know. And you know it wouldn’t be a new year if I didn’t make at least a small list of somedays I aspire to accomplish in the coming year.
*Find and perfect my signature meal. From appetizer to dessert, I want to become really, really good at making one great meal from start to finish. I may have already found my dessert which I shared on Eat.Live.Shop here.
*Sew. Paint. Photograph. Get crafty. Lots.
*Do one thing at a time. This will be a hard habit for me to break…but after my holiday time off, my mind is so blissfully happy being able to concentrate and focus. It makes for more productive, more engaged, more creative thinking and is so against how our world is wired these days. But I’m going to try.
*Finish our home. We’re in. Boxes unpacked, furniture in place. But that lived in homey-home feel is still a work in progress.
*Consume less. Do more. I am a lover of things. You can tell that with one glance at my blog, my office, my closet…I adore stuff. But this year, I’m going to take a break from stuff. Not a break-up mind you, just a break. Less stuff means less to clean, less to store, less to worry about. Which leaves me more time for doing more. Cooking. Crafting. Getting my butt in better shape. Don’t worry – I’ll still share my loves with you here so I can still adore stuff, but from a short distance.
So my friends, I am excited and happy to be starting another wonderful year! I am ending 2010 grateful for so many things – family, friends, health + happiness, all the goodness that is life. And I’m grateful for you too my dear readers! Thanks for sticking it out with me.
To help me do a bit more in 2011, I’m going to be scaling back on my postings here. I’m not going away, just going to be here a bit less regularly. For now. We’ll see how it goes. If you miss me, you can always see what I’m looking at over at Pinterest or my latest photos on Flickr. Or drop me an email at thesomedayblog{at}gmail.com.
Happy 2011!
Don’t you just love the final weeks of December? Surrounded by the love and celebration that surrounds you the rest of the year…but finally able to slow down and enjoy it these last few days…I adore it and am trying to burn it into my brain so I’ll remember to make more of a regular occurrence of it in 2011.
And while I soak it all in – I’m going to be a bit short on the posts this week – so I can enjoy every. single. minute. of life.
xoxo.
