Dose of Inspiration

Happy Monday!  I’m feeling refreshed and ready today as I prepare to head out for London + Stockholm.  I love to travel and soak up much inspiration and creativity…this one promises to be over-the-top.

Over the weekend, I tested out some photography + Photoshop skills I’ve been learning in an online course I’m taking.  And practiced my skills while building a little moodboard to share with you.  A few of my favorite things that have been hanging around my studio waiting to find their purpose – japanese fabics + tapes, paper remnants, my beloved lomo camera, a feather i found on a walk, yarn ready to be embroidered, book binding tape and some mini pencils.  I find inspiration in so many place – but especially in color, texture and pattern.  My studio is full of supplies that highlight this.

Where do you find inspiration?

Time to Play

Oh lovelies…how are you this fine Tuesday?  I am good (thanks for asking:) but have been pondering a question I’d love your input on:

How do you find the time to play, to create, to experiment?

Time that’s just for you -  to explore something you’ve wanted to do.

Sew, paint, learn, write…where do you fit this into life?

Love to hear your thoughts!

all photos from around my craft room of projects just waiting to be begun...sigh.

Shop Talk: Canvas

Oh wow!  It’s rare that I find a shop that I want to buy nearly everything they stock.  I found one exception recently with Canvas, a beautiful home store that sells ceramics, wood, textiles, furniture and on and on.

Their styling is amazing, their edited assortment to die for…and possibly my favorite part – everything they sell is created by artisans and craftsman that practice fair trade and green principles.  Perfect.  Products that not only look good, but you can feel good about buying – even in mass quantity as I plan to do!

Pop on over to check out their fantastic shop this weekend!

Happy Friday friends!

Feather Shadow Box

Happy Friday friends!  I got inspired last night to create a simple feather shadow box for our home.  I love to use shadow boxes to highlight eclectic curio displays.  They can be changed quickly – depending on your latest obsession and are so simple and easy to create.  In this one, I used various feathers and some old stamps.

I purchased these feathers at a store in Austin, but I’ve also started collecting them on my morning walks so I can do a few more pieces.  I’m sure my neighbors think I’m insane always scavenging about…I like the variance in size and stripes…I used the West Elm Shadow Box, but you can find your own at any craft store.  I chose this one because the natural linen was a nice backdrop to the neutral pieces.  I used hot glue to apply the feathers – sorry no photos…not enough hands.  And I’d be lying if I told you this took any longer than 15 minutes to put together.  Simple.  Gratifying.  And still had time to sip my tea and write you this post.

In case you missed it this week:

I’m loving kilim accents in the home, aren’t you?
Summer is here and I can’t wait to have my first patio party.
Stop by Hello, Splendor to see my black and cream spin on summer fashion!

Get your nails ready for summer with this beautiful coral-red from OPI.  What a fun punch of color that’s the perfect summer color!

Do something crafty!  Like making these cute birds from Spool – an amazing fabric store in Philadelphia that I visited last week!  The birds would make a lovely addition to any shelf, or clustered together for a creative mobile.

Get organized with some colorful Pantone tins.  Perfectly proportioned for craft or office…

See you back here next week.

March Craft Project

3 months in, I’ve finally been able to complete my first monthly craft project from my Happy 2010 list!  While unpacking my office this weekend, I came across a couple of my Mrs. John L. Strong stationery boxes.  Sadly, this amazing line of stationary has been discontinued…but I absolutely adore the wood boxes the paper came in.  I also ran across some of my old acrylic craft paint that I had been storing out of sight, and had thus forgotten about.  I decided to merge the two and get those boxes show ready!

And being me – I totally forgot to take a before picture of the boxes.  Photo from luxist.com

A few of my favorite paint colors that came together beautifully for this project.

I used simple sponge brushes…a favorite of mine for small projects.  Cheap, resuable and easy to work with!

The prepwork.  I applied 2 coats to make the color vibrant and true…and then sealed with an acrylic matte coating to protect them.

Have you been crafty lately?  I’d love to see your work..send me an email at thesomedayblog@gmail.com.

inspired walls

As I’ve mentioned, we’ve just moved into a house full of lots of natural light, high ceilings and BIG WHITE WALLS.  I’ve been on the hunt for some inspiration on how to fill the walls creatively and inexpensively.  I hit up some of the usual blog loves, and also found a few new ones that I couldn’t resist sharing with you.
