Happy Friday!

Hi Friends!  I’m finally back home after a long (10 day) trek from LA to Paris, Germany and finally London.  I’m looking forward to wrapping up my Christmas shopping and entertaining family this weekend!  I’ll be cooking and baking sharing my dessert recipe over at Eat.Live.Shop. as part of  Renee’s Holiday Recipe Exchange – which I’m loving following along with and getting many ideas!  Pictured is the apple tart I made for Thanksgiving, not sure if that will make a repeat performance this weekend or not…

Can you believe it’s almost 2011?  I’m trying to remind myself to stop and enjoy the moment, but can’t help but thinking ahead to a few of the things I’m looking forward to doing in the new year!

Long on my to-do list is learning to make ravioli.  I’ve asked for the attachment for my Kitchen Aid mixer from Santa, wink, wink – so am hoping that 2011 is finally my year to learn!   Meanwhile, my ravioli bookmark folder is busting at the seams with all kinds of ravioli goodness.  First up on my list will be artichoke, lobster and mushroom raviolis.

And to eat all that pasta, I’m going to have to increase my workout time…a lot.  One workout I’m loving lately is Exhale’s Core Fusion series.  I just saw a new Boot Camp video that I think might help minimize the amount of pasta that sticks to my hips.  Try out a few segments for free here

I’m going to get a bit more serious about my daily photography…something I started this year, but wasn’t diligent about.  I’m getting a lot of inspiration from here and here. I love my photography – not only as a hobby, but also as a built in slow down and be grateful moment looking through that lens provides.

Hope that you enjoy your weekend!

Happy Thursday!

Happy Thursday friends!  I’m off to Europe for the next week…Paris, Munich and London.  I’m looking forward to the sights, the snow and the shopping!  I’m signing off for the week – but will be back next week with more gift guides and holiday inspiration.  And to get you through the weekend – a few of weekend worthy links.

Loving all kinds of druzy rings…like this one and this one.

Wouldn’t this vintage fur jacket be amazing over all of your holiday dresses?

This poster shop is pretty rad.

I love this stop motion video from Olympus…have you seen it?

xoxo, jill.

three lil’ fall foods to love

acorn squash.  i feel so grown up, professing my love for squash which i’m positive i wouldn’t have touched before the age of 25.  but now, i adore the creamy texture and simple food.  drizzled with olive oil and fresh rosemary = perfection.

fresh pomegranate.  this is probably my favorite fruit.  ever.  it takes so much work to enjoy even one sweet, crunchy bite that i savor each and every morsel!  in oatmeal, on ice cream, plain by the handful.  i could eat this all day long.

ginger…anything.  this year, i’m looking forward to trying these pumpkin & gingerbread ice cream sandwiches.  i’m thinking they’d make the perfect Thanksgiving dessert.  of course, i’ll probably need at least one trial run before then.

what are your favorite foods for fall?

Happy Friday!

Happy Friday folks!  I’m so happy to be back in Dallas this weekend and am looking forward to catching up with some family and friends.  To get us started all-right for the weekend, I have to share this fabness from alternative Irish dancers Suzanne Cleary & Peter Harding.  How long do you think they had to practice THAT?  Amazing…

See you back here next week!

Life on the Road

In the past week, I’ve seen three countries and five cities all across Asia.  Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Seoul and Hong Kong.  And tomorrow I begin my long journey back home to Dallas.  I’m so full of inspiration, my camera and my brain are both bursting at the seams!  A few lessons I’m hoping stick with me when I get back home into my routine:

*Be adventurous.  I was so pleasantly surprised when I decided to just go with the flow on this trip…I tried every food that was put in front of me and in most cases really enjoyed the various and distinct foods I tried!  Grilled sardines, kimchi, a rice and fish paste ‘popsicle’ – all things I tried and mostly loved.  I also jumped on a train from Osaka to Kyoto for an unplanned detour!  In doing so, I got to experience one of the most beautiful, peaceful and serene places I’ve ever been: a Buddhist temple.  Most days, I tend to try to micro-manage my life, never leaving time to explore or be spontaneous.  And in letting that go for at least this week, I lived life fuller and happier.

*Unplug every now and then.  During my time in Korea and Japan, I was without cell phone service and after the initial shock and tremors wore off – I really enjoyed being aware and tuned into my surroundings.  Free to focus on details and beauty around me, I found great inspiration every where I turned.  I spend so much of my day running between meetings and alternately emailing from my blackberry and iPhone that I fail to see the beauty in the everyday.

*Take time to rest and refresh.  I was able to escape the normal jet-lag of an Asia trip by taking care of my body and going to bed early each night when tired, instead of trying to cram in one more thing before bed!  And to refresh I found time to swim or do yoga nearly every day.  The downtime is much needed to be ready for all life throws my way…

Here’s hoping my life lessons can help you too…I’m signing off until Thursday when I’ll be back in Dallas and getting settled into my (new and improved) routine at home.

xoxo, jill.

three lil’ things i love about japan

Konnichiwa friends!  i’m totally loving being immersed in Japanese culture these week – and even secretly dreaming of a someday life in Tokyo:)  Three things i adore about being here, aside from the people, the food and the culture of course:

At a time when the U.S. magazine world is shrinking every day, there is nothing like a store FULL of fashion, interior and design magazines bursting with amazing inspiration!  I have a box sent over monthly, but it’s still not the same as being here and perusing for myself from the hundreds of choices…

Amazing visual merchandising and store displays.  Even a pair of socks is so artfully displayed here, you’ll be inspired.  I have taken over 200 pictures today alone for my style files…wowzers.

And really, for a paper addict like me there is no place on earth like Japan.  I want to buy an extra suitcase and stuff it full of amazing calendars, journals, postcards, note cards and books.   But, don’t worry I’m restraining and only picking my favorite, favorites.

Hope you’re all having a lovely day lovelies!

On the road again…

Happy Monday friends!  I’m back at the airport  just 12 short hours after returning from our Santa Barbara weekend.  This time I’m headed to Tokyo.  I think I’ve told you before about my love of flying…for the bit of time to completely unplug and catch up on my napping, reading and dreaming.  And probably some list making too – I always use the time to rethink my life list and make sure I’m moving in the direction I choose…not just aimlessly wandering.    I’ll have lots of time for that this week as I hit 4 cities in 10 days.  I’m really looking forward to it – some familiar loves in Tokyo and Hong Kong, and new sights in Osaka and Seoul.  I promise to take lots of daily pictures to share the adventure.

Today – I’m sharing a few shots from our weekend soaking in the California sun.  We went to Santa Barbara for the wedding of some close friends and had the best weekend full of good times, great food and amazing wine.  I loved reconnecting with our friends, having some downtime with my husband and spending some time in the outdoors – all much needed for the soul!  Hope that you all had lovely weekends full of life that makes you happy and fed your soul.

Happy Friday (and my life as a book:)

Howdy Friends!  Today I’m so excited to be sharing in the Blog Crawl that the ever-fab Hello, Splendor has put together.  The theme is “My Life is an Open Book” – and here it goes…

The Author:  Me.

The Setting:  At home in Dallas, Texas.  And on the road a lot to…well, everywhere.

The Characters: A girl.  A boy.  A big, huge loving family and loads upon loads of friends.

The Plot: A girl who likes to dream of somedays.  Someday shops, someday homes, someday crafts, someday hobbies.  She makes lists upon lists, looks for inspiration everywhere she goes and is always on the lookout for her perfect someday.

The Twist:  That girl stops to look around and realizes the someday she’s living is pretty darn amazing!

Thanks to Beth for organizing such a great crawl…be sure to check out Alison’s story from My Little Happy Place.  And stop by to see the ever-awesome Dolan and Ali Geiman’s take Monday on their blog.

Happy Weekend!

Wednesday Ramblings

Whew.  Wednesday already.  I can’t believe how fast time is moving these days.  Each day a bit quicker than the one before.

Do you feel that way sometimes too?  Like you just can’t fit it all in.  Life is so wonderfully FULL.

But I wouldn’t trade a moment of it’s crazy-hurry-hurry-speed for anything.  Happy Wednesday!
